Here is the full List of Bank Holidays in January 2020

For New year celebration, RBI has declared the bank holidays in Chenni and some northeastern state, sAizawl, Gangtok, Imphal and Shillong, banks are open across all other major cities of India.  Here is teh list of the Bank holidays of January 2020 which will help you to plan your holidays.

The regular holidays that we all know apart from sundays are Second and fourth Saturdays when bank will be closed. Apart from that, there are several bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act.


Bank will be closed on January 2 for Guru Govind Singh birthday celebrations in Chandigarh. However, the north-eastern state of Aizawl, banks will be closed as they are getting another another holiday for New Year celebrations.

On 14th January, It is Makar Sankranti for which Banks will be closed in the Ahmedabad and rest of Gujarat.In several other cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati and Hyderabad where Uttarayaana Punyakaala Makara Sankranti Festival, Pongal, Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja will be celebrated on January 15, banks will remain closed.

From 15th to 17th January, Banks are going to remain closed in Chennai for various holidays. January 16 is celebrated as Thiruvalluvar Day while January 17th holiday is to mark Uzhavar Thirunal festival.

On January 23, it is the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for which banks will be closed in Kolkata, rest of West Bengal and Tripura.

Again on 30th January, its a holiday in Bhubaneswar, Agartala and Kolkata on account of Saraswati Puja and Basanta Panchami.
