Starting from today, Banks are going to remain closed for consecutive three days. This will be in several cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. This is due to the festival of Mahashivratri for which Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared a bank holiday today in several cities.
Normally, bank holidays are on every second and fourth Saturdays of the month. However, as the Mahashivratri festival will be before the weekend, banks will be shut on working days.
In many cities like Chennai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Patna, Banks are open today.
Last months the employees union went on two-day strike January 31 and February 1. The union has also threatened to go again on strike in next month if their demand of the revision of wages is not fulfilled.
In this upcoming strike from March 11-13, most of the Public sector banks will get affected.
This strike is scheduled for one day after the Holi festival and before the weekend, which would definitely impact the normal banking operations for consecutive 6 days.
